[dropcap letter=”B”]aby Ebony is on another level and he wants you to know it!  His most recent release Why Bother is like a unique nine room house, each room distinctive and different from the last but they all seem to fit perfectly together. With videos featured on ELEVATOR and songs mentioned on Lyrical Lemonade, Baby Ebony is a shining example of the talent Indianapolis has to offer the music industry

PATTERN sat down with Ebony to learn a little about his musical past, who he thinks is killing it and what makes his most recent album different from his previous work. Make sure to tune into his playlist below!

Tell us about your musical background.
There was this keyboard in my house growing up where you could record vocals, make instrumentals and make a song that way. I started messing with it. I actually started producing before I was rapping. Once I found Fruity Loops I started making more complex beats. Eventually I found a love for rapping, started making my own songs and left producing behind.

Tell us about the mix you curated. Does it give off a type of mood? What should we be doing while listening in?
The playlist is just a mix of moods I’ve been feeling lately. I look at it like my mood through any part of the day. I get these vibes randomly throughout the day so I made my playlist to reflect my everyday feelings.

What groups are killing the game right now?
I don’t have too many groups off the top of my head. I’d say Mathaius Young. He’s different. He’s got a formula, man. He’s crazy talented and is always producing high quality music. He’s always working and not just with local acts. He’s working with people high up. Mathaius is an example of who to follow if you want to be a great artist.

During the making of Why Bother what did you want to do different musically?
I tend to stay in a pocket with a lot of my music and stick to a specific formula. On Why Bother I intentionally made the flow of every song different. I just wanted to make something fun and different from what people were used to. I also wanted to stamp my brand on the project with the, “You Know It,” ad-lib on every single song. When someone says, “You Know It,” they think of Baby Ebony and they want to go play my songs.

What are your interests outside of music?
I ain’t gonna lie, outside of music I don’t have many interests. I like to hoop. Before COVID I was hooping everyday at The Factory and the court off Tabernacle, but music pretty much keeps me busy and takes up all my time.

Keep up with Baby Ebony on Instagram!
