To Nicole Busch, ‘style’ means more than dressing well- it means giving the world a sneak peak into what great things you have to offer. From working under Stacy London to launching her own two brands, Carmel-based personal brand and style expert Nicole is on a mission to build women’s confidence through style. We sat down with Nicole to learn more about her current brand, Nicole Blair Wear and her soon-to-launch brand, House of Blair, and what her goals are for each, as well as who she is and what inspires her.
What is your brand, Nicole Blair Wear?
Nicole Blair Wear focuses on clothes, closets and company. I specialize in helping high achieving women become more confident using the power of personal style. The more confident we are, the more successful we become.
Who is Nicole Blair Wear’s typical client?
NBW serves women who are confident and at 75-80%- they have a baseline of style, are career-driven and grounded, but are missing that last 20%. My specialty is seeing the end result. I match the ‘exterior’ to the ‘interior.’ I believe we are all walking pieces of art, much like a book cover- our cover tells the story of what’s inside. It’s my job to pull out all the beauty that lies within and bring it to life. In doing so, I allow my clients the freedom and space to become the person they were meant to be.
What inspired you to create Nicole Blair Wear?
I was my client. I was confident and felt good but always wanted more. I used clothes as a pathway to gain a voice and through that I found a confidence I’ve never had. The more I stepped into myself, the more alive I felt and the more things started to flow in my life. I encourage women to find who they really are- not who social media or society thinks they should be. I’m about ‘unmasking’ and being your authentic self.
What is your background in styling?
I went to school to be a certified personal stylist. Shortly after graduating, I had the opportunity to go to NY for a workshop with Stacy London of TLC’s What Not to Wear. Upon arriving, I realized she was shooting a pilot and my competitive nature kicked in. I knew I wanted more. I was eventually hand-selected and trained under Stacy London, working with the company for 3+ years and went on to help her with style tours for Westfield Mall.
The first client that I styled under my brand Nicole Blair Wear was an Olympic gold medalist, the second walked the red carpet, and my third client changed my entire business model! She was an executive at Facebook who had gained weight, was going through a divorce and had ‘lost’ herself. The 2 hour appointment turned into 5 hours- we laughed, we cried, we connected. I saw her in a different light than she saw herself and in that moment, I knew I wanted to work with the everyday woman. I wanted to use my gift and talents to enrich the lives of others.
What does style mean to you?
Style is a way to express yourself. To find your voice and give a sneak peak into the world of who you are and what you have to offer. It’s a powerful tool that, if used properly, can change people’s lives. I’ve seen women double their income because of their style. I’ve seen relationships strengthen due to style. I’ve seen women take huge risks and reap even bigger rewards because of style. It’s a five letter word that can change your whole life.
Describe your style.
Every person should be able to sum up their style in three words or a phrase. My style is comfortable, sexy and unexpected.
What is your favorite part about what you do and why?
Honestly, I love clothes but it’s the connection and bond I have with my clients. I feel like I get a front row seat to growth and transformation and see it all come to life.
What is it like to be a stylist/entrepreneur in Indy?
It is innovative. I have been styling for over a decade and on both coasts- I worked for a private label in NY and managed millionaires in Cali. I absolutely love Indy. I moved here four years ago and have had so much growth both personally and professionally, so it holds a special place in my heart.
Indy is filled with some badass women who are doing amazing work in the community. For some, a stylist is still something that only the rich have, but for most they see it as a tool/resource. In our lives, we hire experts for certain areas: mechanic, hairdresser, dentist, etc. Clothes should be no different. Stylists are a tool, a resource, and having an expert helping you is no different than any other field.
Tell us about your soon-to-launch brand, House of Blair.
House of Blair is a luxury lifestyle brand. I design each product with great care and intention to take any space from a house a home. House of Blair products are designed to evoke mood, nostalgia, emotion and fill any space with love and belonging. I discovered ‘home’ comes from an ambiance.
When is House of Blair expected to launch?
Finally, what are your goals for Nicole Blair Wear, House of Blair and yourself, both long and short term?
My short term goals are to grow my business, brand awareness and name within the community.
My long term goals are to continue to use my platform to empower women through both Nicole Blair Wear and House of Blair.
