People of Pattern: Likkie Xiong

Likkie Xiong, a former dweller of Chi-town, a recent graduate of Herron School of Art & Design, a past Pattern Magazine design intern is also an up and coming graphic designer in the industry. Whether she is posting pieces to her lifestyle blog or creating fun designs for her Instagram, Xiong is living the life of a creative soul!

What do your friends call you?

Likkie of course!

How old are you (if you don’t mind me asking!)?

22

Where are you from?

I’m from the suburbs of Chicago! Lisle is my hometown.

Which neighborhood do you live in right now?

I live in Zionsville up north for now. I’m moving to Raleigh NC very soon for a job!

What do you do for a living?

I’m a graphic designer. Fresh and new to the industry.

What do you do as a creative outlet?

I style outfits and post them on my lifestyle blog, and I also like to share fun graphic creations on Instagram! It’s refreshing to pull together something quick and instinctive and share it online. Doodles and photography are my specialty though.

What’s the most interesting thing happening in Indy right now?

Right now, it’s all about food. My friends are always excited about new restaurants and Tinker Street is our favorite! It’s got stellar dishes and lovely vibes. The owners and staff are also very friendly.

Favorite local brewery, distillery or winery?

One of my favorite go-to places has been New Day in Fountain Square. Fruity and varied, everything on their drink menu is fresh and satisfying. It’s also one of the best places to go on First Friday if you get the chance!

Last trip you took?

Raleigh, North Carolina for apartment hunting. I was also in Wichita recently to visit a friend.

How did you hear about Pattern?

Grace Hartzel made news in my high school when she had a photo shoot and cover for the first Pattern several years ago, and that’s when I had begun to follow Pattern’s endeavors. I summed up the courage in my senior year of college to apply for a design internship, and eventually I landed one in the spring!

What was your favorite Pattern meetup and why?

One meetup that particularly sticks out is The State of Pattern meetup. I remember this was when Polina announced plans for Ruckus! It was very well received and many of my art school colleagues were impressed to hear about it. Pattern is really reaching forward to help the creative industry here in Indy, and it’s something to be very proud of in our city. I’m certain that Pattern will continue to grow in the years to come.
