Dlang is a fashion forward thinker living in Indianapolis. Working as a research coordinator for health care, designing clothing, and producing her magazine UnZIP keeps her busy each and every day.

What do your friends call you?

In the fashion world, I go by Dlang (da*lang), but my real name is Denisha.

How old are you (if you don’t mind me asking!)?

I don’t mind at all….I’m 32, and blessed that my birthday is coming up on December 13th!

Where are you from?

I’m from Indianapolis.

Which neighborhood do you live in right now?

I spend a lot of time downtown.

What do you do for a living?

I’m a Research Coordinator in health care, primarily in Alzheimer’s Disease.

What do you do as a creative outlet?

I LOVE designing clothing and producing UnZIP Magazine, which is a fashion inspiration publication. I also love to sketch, conduct research, and I’d also like to get into modeling. From day-to-night, I work in two different fields, but they both mesh with my personality perfectly. One day I aim to merge the two careers. I have this modern geek-chic look going on, so it’s funny, when a past article, referenced me as the Clark Kent to Superwoman of Fashion.

What’s the most interesting thing happening in Indy right now?

In the creative world, the ongoing Fashion/Creative Movement is interesting to me. There are many more opportunities, then when I started in 1997.

Favorite local brewery, distillery or winery?

I haven’t been to any, yet; however, my favorite creative store to visit is Indy Upcycle, in Broad Ripple. You never know what creative item you’ll find there, whether it’s for interior or fashion design.

Last trip you took?

I went to Kentucky recently to visit family, but my last relaxing trip was to the Bahamas.

How did you hear about Pattern?

I started with Pattern in the beginning, when they were IFC. I appreciate Pattern’s initiative to bring more opportunities to the Midwest. I think it’s so important to support the organization.

What was your favorite Pattern meetup and why?

I enjoyed the Roundtable with Rep. Susan Brooks, I was able to hear other makers concerns and goals and it was great to continue to spread the word on how beneficial and profitable the industry can be here; whether it’s, retaining talent, increasing tourism, creating jobs, etc., the opportunities are endless. I also enjoyed the meetup with fashion designers Gunnar Deatherage and Elena Bobysheva because it gave an inside view on two different designers, how they are both making their mark in the industry, and how we can too.

What are you doing this coming weekend?

It’s my BIRTHDAY weekend, so I’m not sure yet, but I’m looking forward to it!

What event are you looking forward to attending this month?

We’re getting ready to release volume 6 of UnZIP Magazine, so I’m looking forward to getting that out for everyone to see.
