“My love for sharing with others, documenting my life, writing, design, and fashion sparked my interest in blogging.” Abby Saylor has always been on the lifestyle blogger track since her earliest memories. As a teen, Saylor was nose-deep in fashion magazines. Now, she’s showcasing her edgy-feminine style through her blog as well as her Instagram.
Aubrey Smith: Where did you grow up?
Abby Saylor: I’m a Hoosier, born and raised! I grew up in Westport, Indiana, a tiny town in Decatur County. I later moved to Franklin to attend Franklin College and lived on campus all four years. After graduation, I moved to the Southport area and have been here for pushing a year and a half. I love it! Indiana has always been home.
Aubrey Smith: What is your earliest memory of a noticeable interest in fashion?
Abby Saylor: I’d have to say my interest in fashion sparked when I was a teenager. I loved reading Teen Vogue, shopping, and always taking time to dress up and look my best every single morning. Fashion made me feel good as a form of self-expression and confidence, allowing me to feel more like myself when I was wearing something I truly loved that felt like me.
Aubrey Smith: Who or what influences your style?
Abby Saylor: I’m very inspired by fashion I see on Pinterest and Instagram. I used to be a huge magazine reader back in high school, and that interest in fashion has transitioned to following fellow fashion bloggers and keeping up with the latest trends on Pinterest. I always strive to be myself by standing out a bit, so I like to add my own personal touch to every outfit I wear to make it my own.
Aubrey Smith: What sparked your interest in blogging?
Abby Saylor: My love for sharing with others, documenting my life, writing, design, and fashion sparked my interest in blogging. I started in September of 2015 and haven’t looked back since! I used to cut up magazines and use the clippings to make my own publications as a kid, so I’ve known I was an artistic person with a strong sense of creativity my whole life. Applying that creativity to an online platform came naturally to me.
Aubrey Smith: What are the benefits of blogging in the Midwest?
Abby Saylor: I’ve found the benefit of blogging in the Midwest has been a close-knit blogging community, allowing everyone to grow and succeed a bit more since it’s less saturated. Whereas places like LA and NYC have far more bloggers and social media influencers, so while there are typically more blogging events to go to, there are also more people to “compete” with when it comes to landing local brand work.
Aubrey Smith: What is your perception of the Indianapolis blogging scene?
Abby Saylor: I truly love the inclusion, passion and drive surrounding the Indy blogging scene. Everyone I’ve met has been incredibly welcoming and friendly, and I’m always excited to see work from fellow bloggers in the area. It’s great to have such a welcoming bunch!

Aubrey Smith: What are your favorite Instagram accounts to follow?
Abby Saylor: Great question! I love following people I find inspiring who post great photos, like Jaci Smith, blogger Somewhere Lately, and Cara Loren to name a few. I love finding new people to follow, both locally and globally!
Aubrey Smith: Describe your personal style in four words or one phrase.
Abby Saylor: I’d have to say my style can be described as edgy, trendy, minimal ,and feminine. I love mixing different textures and accents in my outfits to wear a look that stands out, but is also super comfortable and effortless.
Aubrey Smith: What’s your go-to item in your closet?
Abby Saylor: A duster is definitely my go-to. Dusters in neutral tones and light fabrics are perfect for pairing over minimal summer outfits that could use a little something extra, and as an additional touch of layering on colder days. They’re great to layer over shorts skirts or shorts too!
Aubrey Smith: Who are your favorite designers, and what do you like about their designs?
Abby Saylor: I’ve been a big Marc Jacobs, YSL, and Gucci fan since I was a teenager. Their fashion shows were some of my favorites to watch online, and their handbags are killer.
Aubrey Smith: Did you ever consider leaving the Indy area? If so, what made you stay?
Abby Saylor: I considering going off to Chicago or NYC for college when I was younger, but my draw to Franklin College made Indianapolis feel more and more like home. I truly love this city and enjoy living in the suburbs on the south side, where a trip downtown is so quick and effortless — it’s the perfect balance between city and suburbs.
Aubrey Smith: What trends are you noticing for fall fashion?
Abby Saylor: There are tons of trends this season, and I’m loving every single one! The main ones I’ve noticed are bell sleeves and sleeve detail, velvet, embroidery, 70’s-inspired, two-tone denim, pajamas as everyday wear, silk scarves, and the colors red and yellow. Trying new trends every season is a huge part of what makes fashion so fun!
Aubrey Smith: What’s next for you? What short and long term goals are on your list?
Abby Saylor: I find goal setting to be crucial for achieving your dreams, so I’d say a short-term goal of mine is landing more work with brands I love, preferably 2-3+ collaborations a month, simply because I love it. Long term, I’d like to transition from full-time work to part-time work where I can rely on my blog for some of my income before transitioning to being completely self-employed through my blog and freelance work through my businesses with my husband: Bone & Bloom and Bruster & Co.
