We are just a couple of days away from our first anniversary on Mass ave and the launch of Pattern Store! So many great events, meetings and lessons learned in these past 12 months! Personally, I can’t believe that it’s been a year.
Anniversaries are for celebrating, so we definitely considered throwing a party, but then we realized that with so much still to be done to help our local maker community it would be better if we did something very different instead. With that, Pattern store will be closed for the first two weeks of August as we retool the space and the concept to better fit our vision of being a community hub for the local fashion and design community. It will reopen on August 15, as Pattern Workshop!
With the launch of Ruckus still being a few months away, we decided that the best use of our limited resources in the interim would be to work with and grow a small group of fashion Makers very directly. The idea is simple. Instead of expending most of our time and energy on running a retail store, we are going to transform the existing space into a pop-up makerspace, similar to what we did at Harrison Center for the Arts a couple of years ago. However, instead of making it open to the public, we are going to select 3-4 makers for a 6 month residency inside the space. We are specifically looking for fashion designers and jewelry makers. Want more deets? Check out the application HERE!
Will we still sell stuff? Yes! But the retail component will have a smaller footprint and you will see a much more deliberate focus on locally made goods – not just clothing, but leather goods, jewelry, decorative arts, paper goods and whatever else we think is cool and worth showcasing! While we expect our makers to use the space on a daily basis, the retail portion will be available on a limited basis as we plan to utilize volunteers and interns to run it, and we hope to do more pop-ups, mini fashion showcases, and special events, instead.
I want to thank every single person who has supported our store project these last 12 months and especially Riley Area Development Corporation – there have been SO many of you! You’ve really helped us move Indy’s community of fashion makers one step closer to our grand vision of a robust, vibrant, self-sustaining industry! I am SO excited by this new development!
So back to partying though: 😉 Please save August 15, 5-9p, and join us for the relaunch of Pattern store as Pattern workshop. You’ll be able to meet our resident makers, check out the new digs, and as always mingle with other awesome creators while enjoying some drinks and tunes.
See you there!
UPDATE: People have asked what equipment we will offer in the space. As of right now, we have 2 straight seam Jukis, an industrial straight seam machine, a Singer saddle stitch machine and an industrial hemmer. We will also be providing tables and chairs, and some storage lockers. Wi-fi of course! And plenty of good vibes! 🙂
