In a matter of days, this city goes into the global spotlight and stands to entertain several hundred-thousand of our closest friends. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’re well aware Super Bowl XLVI is going to be played in Indianapolis on February 5th.
You’re also aware it’s not so much about the game, but the events in the days leading up to the game that will garner international attention.
But, what, as a fashionable community, can we do?
After giving it some thought, I’ve come up with a list of ways we can be great hosts and show the world Indianapolis is a fashion force in its own right:
1. Be gracious:
We’re all going to try and finagle our way into the best parties in the city. Some of us will be hosting them. Since we’re entertaining out-of-town guests, I’m going to borrow a page from old-world etiquette. Don’t trash the host! Sure, we take turns complaining about Uggs and sweats as the paragon of style locally on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis. But, with company in town, cut it out. We have so much good stuff going on in the city, style-wise and design-wise, why not talk us up? Which brings me to Step 2…
2. There’s no “I” in the word “TEAM:”
One of the goals Pattern has set forth is to create a community with one universal goal: promoting and bettering Indianapolis’ fashion community. We have so much emerging talent in this area, in the form of designers, stylists, photographers, models, and boutiques. If Kim Kardashian walked up to you on the street and asked you where she can go find a fabulous party dress, what would you tell her? Would you send her to the mall or would you send her to IndySwank? Would you tell her Cheeky Couture or Silver in the City has the best jewelry? If she wanted vintage, would you tell her about Harloh’s?
3. “Beauty knows not of comfort – all that matters is the face you show the world:”
That’s a quote from Eleanor Waldorf in the pilot episode of Gossip Girl.If you are lucky enough to get behind the velvet ropes in the weeks ahead, don’t make an ass out of yourself. I don’t want to see pictures of you representing the fashion community while doing body shots on a bar. I also don’t want to see you on Facebook looking like what the cat dragged in. Take some pride in your appearance and your behavior. Our collective reputation is on the line.
We are a great group of passionate people who all love Indianapolis and fashion! Cut the crap and represent us proud!
