SUPPLY Brand Highlight: Streetly HRC

PATTERN’s 2019 SUPPLY tradeshow (previously known as the STREETExPO) took place on October 5. SUPPLY is the only streetwear and contemporary fashion trade show in Central Indiana and PATTERN is highlighting just a handful of the brands that were showcased at that show. SUPPLY aims to serve as a conduit between brands, buyers, designers and fashion lovers continuing to bring attention to Indy’s fashion aspirations and talent. To learn more about the event, visit the SUPPLY info page here. SUPPLY will be back in August of 2020.

One of the featured brands at this year’s SUPPLY was StreetlyHRC. StreetlyHRC won the 2019 Brand of the Year runner-up prize of $250. We chatted with the brand’s founder, Gordo about his love of streetwear, the design process and what’s next.

Where did your love of streetwear/fashion begin?
My love of streetwear started in high school. The skate and graffiti scene played a big part in my life. My homies would skate in SB Dunks, BBC/IceCream, The Hundreds, and many more. They would introduce me to different underground brands that would be considered “lowkey” at the time. Ever since, it played a big role in my life.

What’s behind the name of your brand?
Streetly is like an adjective for the company. Our influence is from the street culture, and it is important that we show where our influences come from. Therefore everything we do is street culture.

Describe your design process form conception to realization.
Our design process is strictly from different influences in street culture, art, and design communities. Our job is to highlight the importance of those communities.

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve had to overcome as you’ve tried to grow your business?
The biggest challenge was understanding the fashion business as a whole. In the beginning, I just wanted to create cool stuff for cool people, but there is a science to running a fashion business. I think I got the hang of it now!

What is your favorite part about owning your own brand?
Creating something new to share to the world. It is important for Streetly to create new and fresh things. I love seeing the reaction from people when we create something dope.

What’s next for you?
We are dropping a new fanny pack “Hello Sticker.” It will be releasing in November. Also, continuing to create dope things for dope people.

What was your biggest takeaway from SUPPLY?
SUPPLY is a great tradeshow to network with people in the same field as you.

Keep up to date with everything Streetly by following them on Instagram, Twitter, and their website.
