Cinema classic Ferris Bueller has inspired countless memes, costumes and “Save Ferris” shirts but one person decided to take it to the next level. DJ Ferris Booler, aka Aaron Delgado, created his stage name off the famous character played by Matthew Broderick and has been at it for almost three years. Get to know him better below and preview some tracks he will be playing at our Vol. 15 Launch Party on March 23!

Samantha Ripperfer: How long have you been a DJ? Making music?
Ferris Booler: I’ve been spinning for a little under three years now.

SR: Why do you go by the name Ferris Booler?
FB: It’s really just me paying homage to one of my favorite movie characters ‘Ferris Bueller.’ I remember watching that movie for the first time thinking Ferris was the coolest person ever. Even though I’ve grown to appreciate Cameron Frye a little more, Ferris is still the man. It’s still one of my all-time favorite flicks.

SR: Why did you decide to pursue music?
FB: I’ve been in love with music for as long as I can remember, so working with music always made sense to me. Music has always served as a positive influence and form of therapy in my life. I’ve always been that person hunting for new music and curating playlists/mixes to share my findings with friends. After a while I wanted to try a more hands-on, personal approach so I invested in a controller. I instantly fell in love with the process. I also gravitated towards DJing because not only does it give me a platform to express myself, but it also allows me to create an environment where people can have fun and express themselves freely. Seeing people enjoy themselves to what I’m playing is one of the best feelings in the world.

SR: Tell us about the playlist you created?
FB: Anytime I put music together, I try to portray a mood. This playlist contains a few of my favorite songs that get me moving, some classics and some newer gems that shouldn’t be slept on. One of the artists in this playlist I’d like to shed some light on is Mahalia. I run through her catalog on the regular. She’s a gem!

SR: What can you tell us about your launch party performance?
FB: I’ll be playing some classic Neptunes, house, new age funk… a little bit of everything. I always have the nostalgic tunes on deck but hopefully I can introduce some attendees to some new tunes as well.

SR: If you could tour with any artist/band who would it be?
FB: Frank Ocean…. Ok, I was just trying to speak a Frank Ocean tour into existence with that one. On a serious note I would really love to tour with Kaytranada. I feel like I could learn so much from that guy. I’ve been a fan of his work for a while now but his performance at Pitchfork in Paris last year was so inspiring to me. The set was amazing for a few reasons but what was most impressive to me is the fact that he produced a majority of the songs he played. I’ve been wanting to try my hand at production and that performance really motivated me to get to it.

SR: What do you do in your free time?
FB: I’m in school right now, so that consumes a majority of my free time. Other than that, I’m either hunting for or working on music. I have an endless amount of notes in my phone consisting of music to look into or blends that I think of randomly throughout the day, so I try to work those ideas out any chance I get.
