People of Pattern: DJ Limelight

Courtney Xavier aka DJ Limelight has a client list that reads like a who’s who directory: Louis Vuitton USA, Ciroc, Dope Couture, House of Blues (New Orleans), Playboy, Mandalay Bay (Vegas), National Association of Black Journalists, Formula One, just to name a few. He’s also the resident DJ for Indiana Pacers, is on Hot96.3 weekdays at 5p and every Saturday night you can catch him spinning at Hideaway. Follow him on Insta to get a glimpse of this cool cat’s life and times.

What do your friends call you?

Most of my friends call me Xavier or Court (which is short for my first name, Courtney). Most notably, my mom calls me Limelight.

How old are you (if you don’t mind me asking!)?

I am 36.

Where are you from originally?

I’m originally from Indianapolis!

Which neighborhood do you live in right now?

I live in the best neighborhood in America — Fountain Square.

What do you do for a living?

I deejay full-time for a living! I’m currently working on becoming Polina Osherov’s creative assistant. 🙂

What do you do as a creative outlet?

Most of what I do for a creative outlet isn’t music-adjacent at all and I like it that way.

For several years I’ve kept a digital idea box of drawings, notes and clippings of things that are inspiring to me. In it I keep (read: hoard) fashion concepts, art, product design ideas and everything in between. It is my happy place.

[I refer to my creative outlet as Mill Eight (which is an anagram of my DJ name).]

What’s the most interesting thing happening in Indy right now?

Growth.

Favorite local hang out, and what makes it special?

I’d have to say The Hifi is my favorite place to hang out in the city. The variety of local and national acts you can hear there is not only special but important to the culture of the city. I love that place.

Last trip you took – where and why?

To Washington, D.C. to deejay.

How did you hear about PATTERN?

From my friend, Renee.

Favorite PATTERN event and why?

The magazine launch parties!

Favorite issue of PATTERN MAGAZINE?

The look/listen issue.

What upcoming event are you looking forward to?

It’s in October but I’m really looking forward to Windborne’s The Music Of Prince at the ISO.
