PATTERN Reads with Parallel Design Group

Photos by Jamar Mitchell

Parallel Design Group is a tightly-focused team of interior designers with a passion for emitting brand and culture through the design of the built environment. We believe in promises and caring well for our clients. We welcome collaboration and make decisions with integrity and purpose. Our name came from the desire to work side-by-side, in parallel with our clients. Our process marries art and science; creating stunning, strategic designs that meet our clients’ needs and exceed their expectations.

PDG has worked with a wide array of forward-thinking Indianapolis

businesses to design spaces that serve people well and create an unforgettable atmosphere.

Over the past five years, Parallel Design Group has flourished in our niche market of interior design spaces for corporations in the Indianapolis area (and beyond). Since its inception, Briana Dunkin (owner and founder) has led the efforts to do business differently; in parallel with our clients with a focus on investing in our team (the heart of PDG).

As PATTERN can attest to, a designer’s life is dull without inspiration. Here’s a few of our favorite design books, magazines, digital resources and podcasts that inspire us daily.

Check out PDG on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and their website.

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

ELIZABETH GILBERT

Written by Elizabeth Gilbert, this book helps readers live creatively beyond their fear. As New York Times Bestseller, this book has inspired many, including me! According to the Washington Post, “Big Magic is a celebration of a creative life…Gilbert’s love of creativity is infectious, and there’s a lot of great advice in this sunny book…Gilbert doesn’t just call for aspiring artists to speak their truth, however daffy that may appear to others; she is showing them how.”

The Architecture of Happiness

ALAIN DE BOTTON

According to Amazon, “The Achitecture of Happiness is a dazzling and generously illustrated journey through the philosophy and psychology of architecture and the indelible connection between our identities and our locations.” I love this book and the cover!

Overview: A New Perspective of Earth

BENJAMIN GRANT

Author Benjamin Grant was inspired by what astronauts experience when they are in space looking down on Earth, known as the Overview Effect. Thus this book came to life to give everyone that experience. The images are just breathtaking!

Downtown Chic: Designing Your Dream Home: From Wreck to Ravishing

ROBERT & CORTNEY NOVOGRATZ

Stars of the hit HGTV show “9 by Design” have been in the home renovation world for 10 years now. They love mixing sophistication with touches of bohemian through incorporating high and low pieces into their renvations. Through this book, they bring to the hands of viewers what they do in their show but on a whole new level.

Domino Magazine

MAGAZINE

Possibly one of the best interior design magazines I’ve ever seen! Domino magazine has been around since 2005 and kills the game when it comes to decorating ideas and showcasing one-of-a-kind spaces. Known as being “the ultimate guide for a stylish home and life,” this magazine never disappoints.

Contract Magazine

MAGAZINE

This commercial interior design magazine has been turning heads for quite some time now. I love scouring their website for design ideas and to see whats trending.

Architectural Digest

MAGAZINE

Architectural Digest also known as AD, celebrates international design, decorating ideas, places to travel and more. I love browsing their website to find new places to shop and around the clock coverage of the world of design and architecture.

Design Milk

DIGITAL RESOURCE

Design Milk is so much fun! I love the way their website is laid out and love visiting it for all things architecture, art, home, interiors, style, tech, travel and more. Their logo is too cute!

Steelcase

DIGITAL RESOURCE

I love checking out all the products Steelcase has to offer. From architecture to furniture and technology, they create an experience with their products that are “designed to help people reach their full potential.”

Young House Love

PODCAST

I can’t get enough of podcasts, especially Young House Love. Their podcasts brings to life everything they do in their life and on their website. I love listening to each episode where they talk abut decorating, DIY’s, tips and tricks and more. It’s a must to check out!
