E! News Style Correspondent Robbie Laughlin may have been born and raised in a town with a population of only 700, but he did not let the size of Yamhill, Oregon dash his fashion dreams.
“I don’t think growing up in a small town has to hinder you,” Laughlin said. “If you really have a flair to want to dress and be the best, you can make that happen with what you have. By God, if I didn’t win best dressed before I left that town!”
Laughlin recently hosted the Macy’s “Putting it All Together” fashion show at Castleton Square Mall where he let the audience in on fall’s must-have looks. The “Who Wore It Best” star had a few tips for dressing your best this fall and creating your own personal style:
1. “Above all, stay true to yourself. I always say—if that doesn’t look good on you, then that trend is not your friend.”
2. “Try clothes on in-store. I hear people say that they hate shopping and trying on clothes – then you’re going to be a disaster. Choose pieces that catch your eye, but be sure to put them on and look at yourself in the mirror from all angles.”
3. “Tailoring is so important. I’m lucky to be in LA with a tailor on every corner, but every town has a person that can tailor clothes. Looking good is all about fit. When a garment fits you correctly, it makes all the difference.”
Laughlin’s fashion prowess should be trusted – he’s been in the business for years, interviewing designers and celebrities from Valentino and Diane von Furstenberg to Cindy Crawford and Blake Lively. For 2013 looks, The Life & Style Magazine contributor urged us to keep looks bold and enjoyable.
“I just covered New York Fashion Week, and the biggest takeaway was fashion is fun right now.” Laughlin said. “Play with color, mix textures and patterns, and don’t take yourself too seriously,”
To stay on trend for Spring 2013, Laughlin also suggested adding accessories with a touch of tassel or fringe. He warned to make sure that trend is well done because overdoing it can get gaudy quickly.
Inquiring fans on Twitter, who treat Laughlin’s advice like gospel, continuously want to know the answer to one question – when is Laughlin getting his own show?
“A new show is always in the works, whether it’s with a new production company or cable network,” Laughlin said. “Hopefully in the near future.”
