Inspiration: Profiles of Black Women Changing Our World

CRYSTAL MCCARY AND NATHAN HALE WILLIAMS

At the weariest of life, adversity makes me question why the hint of melanin in my skin is treated like it’s melanoma.  Oddly enough, the same breastmilk was always pure and worthy of consumption by all. Nevertheless, as much as we hope for the complexion barrier to dissipate the more I realize people will never let this inconsequential factor expire. This draws attention my Inspiration book of black women changing our world. To see women of melanin achieve greatness ignite my musing to be great.

Fast Forward Fashion: Where Fashion Defies Function

NATHALIE GROLIMUND

I will have to admit, there is something about an oversized book with fashion images. It’s clearly the industry standard! This is my ideal book for creative inspiration. I would like to call it my fashion art book, but it’s a realm of high end designer fashions ripping the runway and couture photo shoots. It fosters in intricate detailing for aspiring designers wanting more in their design aesthetic.

9 Heads: A Guide to Drawing Fashion

NANCY RIEGELMAN

As much as I hate drawing (oxymoron) the more I realize it is required for some of my clients. In my veiled spare time, I find myself glaring through the pages. I will one day, sketch just as fast as I can construct a garment. Ha! Time for a cigarette break…joke kidding I don’t smoke. Maybe I’m slightly anal in my expectations of my sketches.

The Art of Being You

GIANNI VERSACE

As a child Gianni Versace was my sole inspiration for wanting to be a designer. You will find a picture of Gianni on my shelf in my design space. I love it when the true fashionistas acknowledge him. That’s when I know they are just as passionate as I am about fashion. He is my glass of nostalgia topped off by stuffed olives with blue cheese.

A to Z of Style

AMY DE LA HAYE

This is a handy go to book for style terms. What cultivated my findings to obtain this book was reading the quotes from industry professionals. For example, ‘Garments of striking transparency were worn in 1912 and known as X-ray dresses.’ Paul Nystrom, writer on the fashion industry, 1928

Boss Women Pray

KACHELLE KELLY

While embracing a women’s empowerment seminar I had the pleasure of engaging with the author. This book provides a comprehensive prayer guide for entrepreneurs and women leadership. #girlpower #spiritualpower #IamABOUTthisLIFE

SOPHIA AMORUSO

From thrifting on EBay to selling on NastyGal.com, #GIRLBOSS recounts an interesting story of fast fashion as we know it today. You can also catch the story on Netflix. But, of course we all know…The book is always better. This book provides a good perspective about selling online with a hosting website and how it can affect your business. Great insight to the unknowns.
