People of PATTERN: Devin York

What do your friends call you?

Devin, D. Devo, H.B.I.C. (just kidding).

How old are you (if you don’t mind me asking!)?

29

Where are you from?

Small town Elwood, Indiana a.k.a “The Heart of Hoosierland”

Which neighborhood do you live in right now?

Homeowner in SoBro

What do you do for a living?

I’m an Educator for Redken and for twelve years I’ve been a Stylist behind the chair at Clipzone Salon & Spa in Anderson, IN.  I’m also a freelance hairstylist.

What do you do as a creative outlet?

I love to do anything with hair: styling, coloring and cutting. I love creating new looks/trends & giving makeovers!

What’s the most interesting thing happening in Indy right now?

I just read an article in the IndyStar that said SoBro area (54th Street) will be the next Mass Ave. I love eating, drinking and shopping local! Seeing neighborhoods around me being built up and empty storefronts come to life is amazing. Also can we just say WOMEN’S MARCHES?!?!

Favorite local brewery, distillery or winery?(Or if not a drinker, then favorite eatery.)

I love Twenty Tap for the best beer and food! I also love Quaff On and I hear they’re opening a tasting room right here in SoBro. Also I can’t forget my love for my favorite  neighborhood bar/restaurant & coffee house Moe & Johnny’s. Can you tell I love my neighborhood?

Last trip you took?

I’ve recently done quite a bit of traveling around the United States for training to become a Redken Educator.  I’ve been to Tampa, New York City and Las Vegas. I love Vegas!

How did you first hear about PATTERN?

Wil Foster, he’s amazing! He’s been raving about the magazine and the people behind the scenes for years! I’ve made so many great connections through Wil and PATTERN it’s amazing.

What was your favorite PATTERN meetup and why?

I always like the launch parties! Such cool spots around the city! Let’s get one going over in my neck of the woods.
