People of PATTERN: Eric Rees

What do your friends call you?
“Rick,” but that’s friends-only. You gotta earn the right to use that one.

How old are you (if you don’t mind me asking!)?
26 years young.

Where are you from?
Born in Champaign, Illinois, but as long as I can remember has been Indianapolis.

Which neighborhood do you live in right now?
Fountain Square!

What do you do for a living?
I’m a content creator for Lessonly, a learning automation software based here in Indianapolis.

What do you do as a creative outlet?
I spend WAY too much time on my Instagram account.

What’s the most interesting thing happening in Indy right now?
The growth of the restaurant culture. Milktooth, Bluebeard and plenty others have brought national attention to the city and provided a platform for a little more experimentation. Who isn’t excited for more good food?!

Favorite local brewery, distillery or winery? (Or if not a drinker, then favorite eatery.)
Fountain Square Brewery is literally across the street, so I might be biased.

Last trip you took?
Road trip to the South Carolina coast with my family for a week-long vacation. It was perfect.

How did you first hear about PATTERN?
I heard they needed a summer intern that could help with social media and website building. I was crazy enough to apply.

What was your favorite PATTERN meetup and why?
I’m going to cheat and say the Launch Party for our 10th issue. I haven’t been with PATTERN since the beginning, but it’s starting to feel like a while and seeing the celebration for FIVE YEARS of PATTERN was awesome. The Tube Factory was a great place to host all of our amazing community members. We danced and drank and had a great time.

What event are you looking forward to attending this month?
I’m a long-time attendee of CreativeMornings and this month’s talk from Kelsey Rardon on “Sound” should be awesome.
