Oh my stars, the hair! Yeah, okay, we’ll get to the fashion in just a minute, but get out your pick and comb because if we follow the style set out in this Desigual fall/winter collection, hair just can’t be too large. If it’s not teased to the extreme and flopping around all over the place in a playful spirit then you’re just too uptight! Let it loose! Let it flow!

In some ways, this fall/winter collection is very much a continuation of the upbeat, brightly-colored, somewhat bohemian looks we saw last season. The prints were a wild mix of stripes and circles that started off in water colored brush stroke and eventually because more refined as the collection moved toward slightly more formal pieces. Desigual delights in being that fun, quirky brand whose clothes hint that a party is at hand and these looks definitely fill that requirement.

Silhouettes are typically loose, especially with sweaters and dresses, of which there are plenty. Pants are the exception to that rule, so tightly tailored that the seams are going to leave marks no matter how well-hydrated one’s skin might be. Dresses flirt right around the knee both just above and just below. Knit sweaters are nothing short of huge right down to the floppy cow necks the likes of which I’ve not seen in something close to forty years.

Diversity rules this runway and it was exciting to see Chantelle Brown-Young make what I hope is the first of several appearances on runways this season. Most every ethnicity available was represented and demonstrates how this is a collection that works for just about any woman of any age. Yes, I would put one of these sweaters on my grandmother! Okay, so the crop top probably has a limited draw, and some while love those mustard-colored booties while others are likely to hate them. Still, there’s much more to like in this collection than not.

Desigual is one of those deceptive brands that looks so hip and contemporary that one easily overlooks the quality of the work. Don’t make that mistake. This is still a luxury line and the pieces toward the end of the collection gently remind us of that fact. Without question, though, Desigual is here to party, so cue the music, turn up the volume, and get your dance on!

I’ll just sit over here next to the pretzels and nod happily.
