This coming First Friday, 6-8p, Pattern Store is excited to showcase local lipgloss brand BITCHSTIX! Indianapolis resident Emily Kennerk’s lipgloss company donates all net proceeds to organizations that help victims of sexual abuse or domestic violence. BITCHSTIX contain SPF and come in a variety of organic flavors.
We caught up with Emily in advance of our event.
What sparked the idea to create your own lip balm brand?
We all have times in our lives where we have to speak up for ourselves and for others. In one of the instances, while wearing a beautiful shade of red lipstick, the idea was born. (Look for our Lipstix and Liptints Coming Fall 2015)
And that name?
Bitch is a word that is often used to demean and shame someone, to crush a persons’ spirit. Chances are we’ve all been called a bitch at some point in our lives and most likely we were standing up for ourselves or someone. I’d like to take those moments, and use the word as a trigger of empowerment. The name callers can keep the shame.
How did you choose the organizations to donate your company’s proceeds to?
We created a program, ImpactLocal, which allows the retailer to nominate an organization that supports the end of domestic abuse and sexual assault programming in their community. Whether BITCHSTIX is sold in Indianapolis, NYC or Kalamazoo, we will be able to impact locally.
Please stop by on Friday, stock up on Bitchstix and support and awesome cause!
