Coming April 16-19 is the long awaited TANJERINE: An Interactive Experience of Fashion, Film and Food. The main event is on April 19, with specialty events in the days leading up — it will all take place at the Sanctuary on Penn. TANJERINE is an offshoot of ORANJE, which focuses on Indianapolis music and art. These festivals bring out the creative side of Indy in an innovative way, allowing attendees to see Indianapolis in a new light. The event will be a grand compilation of Indy culture. TANJERINE gave Pattern a sneak peek at the excitement.
The week kicks off starting Wednesday when the finals for a craft cocktail bartending competition take place. The competition began on March 26, and the final six will duke it out on April 16 to see who can develop the tastiest cocktails. The event will be one big cocktail party, where attendees can watch the competition and dress in their finest. You may event see some local designers at the event in their own designs.
Thursday will be all about the fashion. Wedding gowns created by Art Institute student Alyssa Botkins will be shown, OFabz will be providing swimwear for a live photo shoot and A Do Hair Design will have a Bumble and Bumble booth where you can see new hairstyle trends come to life. At the booth you can also pick up the new book by artist Laurent Philippon Hair, Fashion and Fantasy. A Do Hair Design and Faces by Kathy Moberly will be doing hair and makeup for the models at the event.
On Friday we’ll see a new take on a fashion show with a fashion parade featuring up and coming models from L Modelz. We’ll also see a break dancing performance by Alkemy. The dance will be both Friday and Saturday and they’ll be sporting outfits by No Bad Ideas. Attendees on Friday can have fashion sketches drawn up by artist Nicole Yalowitz.
Saturday will be the main event; featuring a giant Cards Against Humanity-inspired game sponsored by Crafted Taste. One cocktail idea will be chosen and then created by the winner of Wednesday’s competition. Also on Saturday: a flash mob dance party by models wearing vintage finds from local boutiques, the unveiling of Instagram videos from the Show Us Your Midwest competition and many more surprises.
Throughout the week there will be vendors at each event, featuring yummy Midwest delicacies, trendy local fashion, and a whole lot of fun. Every night will also see the screening of a variety of short films and videos such as the Sriracha Documentary (Thursday), Pages to the Runway Documentary (Friday), Wilks & Wilson Instructional videos (Saturday), music videos from MFT(Wednesday) and much more! And of course, Pattern will be there too! We’ll have a giant shipping container donated by Pac-Van, filled to the brim with local fashions for attendees to peruse and purchase. The Shop Box will also feature a video installment by Jeremiah Nickerson. You won’t want to miss TANJERINE 2014! Buy your tickets today!
