If you already have plans for this Friday, cancel them. You may have forgotten that this Friday is First Friday, and we know exactly where you should be: at the grand opening of the Cole-Noble Gallery at Artistry.
What is Artistry?
Artistry, a new apartment and office development in downtown Indianapolis, focuses on bringing art and life back into the Cole-Noble District. The neighborhood is a one-square-mile area on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis, and Artistry is right smack dab in the middle. They welcomed their first residents in November, and will continue to develop the complex through Summer 2014.
Residents experience the epitome of downtown living with open courtyards, a vegetable garden, rooftop pool, sundeck, movie theatre, and art gallery, and those are just a few of the perks. This Friday, guests will be able to tour the apartments and attend the grand opening of their permanent art gallery, Cole-Noble Gallery.
What is Cole-Noble Gallery?
The gallery is located on the first floor of Artistry and features collections by local artists that will be rotated four times each year. Walter Knabe, who works in both his Carmel and New York City studios, is the first artist to have his work displayed. The gallery will also include work from local artists Tom Casalini, Samantha Kelly, Tasha Lewis, Todd McCutcheon, Tom Mueller, (Pattern’s own) Polina Osherov, Quincy Owens, Gary Schmitt, and Artur Silva. Artistry hopes that the gallery’s emphasis on local art will help connect and beautify the community.
“It is important for us to partner with the neighborhoods and communities where we are located,” explained Kim Hurd, Artistry’s Developer at Milhaus Development, “We want the community to see how the space has transformed into this beautiful community with a focus on the arts.
Why Come to the First Friday Event?
In Hurd’s own words: “This will be an event unlike others. There is a positive energy to the revitalization of this space, and we want everyone to experience it and be a part of it.”
Hang out with the artists whose work is on display, and enjoy displays from Pattern, created by Jamee Bryant, and “I am an Artist”, in addition to the Cole-Noble Gallery. Of course there will be food, Sun King brews, music by DJ Gabby Love, and other fun surprises. Come check it out!
