Talent wanted! Win big with Vans Custom Culture

vansHigh schoolers rejoice! Vans, the maker of the world’s most iconic canvas sneakers, has announced some rad news for local students. And it has nothing to do with a new color-checkered slip-on or another second-rate rap song by The Pack — it’s phenomenally cooler news, so listen up!

The Vans Custom Culture competition, now in its fourth iteration, aims to ignite a creative fire in high school students across the country, while raising funds and awareness for the importance of art education amidst diminishing school budgets. Young budding artists, fashion designers and creative students alike are tasked with designing their own VANS, creating masterpieces of art from a traditional pair of Vans shoes. The top five schools’ teams will be flown to New York City to exhibit their art-adorned Vans shoes designs at the final showcase and judging, and the winner will be awarded $50,000 toward their high school’s art program.

Know a high schooler (or ten) who loves Vans and happens to be passionate about the arts? Well then, here are the details to start sharing: Officially registered high schools are sent palettes (see, told you it was awesome!) of four popular styles of white Vans for students to customize. Each pair of shoes must be designed to fit within one of the following themes representing the Vans lifestyle: action sports, art, music, or a “local flavor,” reflecting regional inspiration.

Indiana schools can now register until February 11, 2013. Meaning? You still have time to make sure your local high school gets involved and has a chance at putting Indiana’s abundance of creative youth in the national spotlight.
