Fall 2012 Trend Report: Pretty Pleats

Do you prefer chic over edgy? Kate Middleton over Lady Gaga? Timeless over trendy? Then pleats will be your new bestie this fall. While leather reigned the fall runways, designers didn’t forget the classicists either. On many a runway this season, pretty pleats were a classy alternative to the gothic styles that have been so popular in the fashion world lately.

Casual co-ed cool was the word at Billy Reid with thick wool skirts paired with fur trimmed peacoats, while tight sheer pleats on a flowing skirt or sophisticated party frock at Gianfranco Ferré, BCBG and Christian Dior looked perfectly polished.

And if you’re more Liz Taylor than Grace Kelly, try a cutaway pleat skirt à la Givenchy, revealing just a touch of a sexy lace-trimmed slip. After all, we can’t be good girls all the time.
